چکیده

This study evaluates formaldehyde (HCHO) over the U.S. from 2006 to 2015 by comparing ground monitor data Air Quality System (AQS) and a satellite retrieval Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI). Our comparison focuses on utility of inform patterns, trends, processes ground-based HCHO across We find that cities with higher levels biogenic volatile organic compound (BVOC) emissions, including primary HCHO, exhibit larger diurnal amplitudes in surface observations. These differences hour-to-hour variability suggests agreement may depend distribution emission sources. On seasonal basis, OMI exhibits highest correlation AQS summer lowest winter. The ratios versus other seasons show pronounced OMI, likely due changes vertical distribution. is more than at surface, 20–100% also has latitude dependency, regions. agrees interannual certain periods, whereas do not consistent decadal trend. possibly rather large which makes small drift less significant. Temperature explains part variabilities. Small temperature variations western are reflected quiescent region. decrease summertime southeast could be partially explained negative trend local temperatures.

Water balance-based actual evapotranspiration reconstruction from ground and satellite observations over the conterminous United States

The objective of this study is to produce an observationally based monthly evapotranspiration (ET) product using the simple water balance equation across the conterminous United States (CONUS). We adopted the best quality ground and satellite-based observations of the water budget components, i.e., precipitation, runoff, and water storage change, while ET is computed as the residual. Precipitat...

Ground-Level NO2 Concentrations over China Inferred from the Satellite OMI and CMAQ Model Simulations

In the past decades, continuous efforts have been made at a national level to reduce Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) emissions in the atmosphere over China. However, public concern and related research mostly deal with tropospheric NO2 columns rather than ground-level NO2 concentrations, but actually ground-level NO2 concentrations are more closely related to anthropogenic emissions, and directly affect...

Validation of Omi Total Ozone Using Ground-based Brewer Observations

Near-to-real time as well as “archive quality” Brewer total ozone observations, which are performed with well maintained and calibrated instruments over the Northern Hemisphere have been used for the validation of the total ozone column product of the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) aboard the NASA EOS-Aura satellite. During the commissioning phase of OMI, the near-to-real time ground-based d...

Interpreting satellite column observations of formaldehyde over tropical South America.

Space-borne column measurements of formaldehyde (HCHO), a high-yield oxidation product of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), represent important constraints for quantifying net regional fluxes of VOCs. Here, we interpret observed distributions of HCHO columns from the Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment (GOME) over tropical South America during 1997-2001. We present the first comparison of year-...
